Well the reason that I haven't posted in a couple of days, is because I have been working on a project! I got the idea to make a chalkboard for my room from an old painting. On Friday, we had decided that we were going to go to some yard sales and see if we could find some things that I had ideas for. The first one was my chalkboard, and the second idea was that I wanted to take an armorer and reuse it as a dresser/tv stand/vanity. We went to about 4 different yard sales, and then to a flea market. We struck out at all the yard sales, but we hit the jackpot at the flea market. We found a painting with a nice good frame for $5.00! We got a good deal!! The frame was not to my liking color wise, and I always knew that I wanted it to be bright and cheerful, so we knew we would have to spray paint it. We spray painted it pink, and it turned out really pretty!!
The actually painting had water damage and so we couldn't use the painting. The frame was good though. We ended up going to the hardware store and getting a piece of plywood and using that as the actually chalkboard. We got chalkboard spray paint, so it was fairly easy. We found a piece of plywood that fit PERFECTLY! We couldn't have asked for a better piece of plywood. We tried painting the piece of plywood with two coats of the spray paint, and it didn't turn out so good. We finally realized that it was because we hadn't sanded it before painting it. We talked to some workers at Lowes, and they told us that we probably should have sanded it before painting it. Chalkboard paint goes on better when the surface it smooth. We used up all the spray paint we had Friday night, and we didn't have any more sand paper left so we really couldn't do anything about it on Friday night. Saturday morning we got up and went to some more yard sales looking for my armorer, and still looking for it. God has the perfect armorer for me, and he is just waiting til the perfect time to drop it right in my lap! ;) We went to Lowes, and got more paint, and some sanding blocks. After getting back home, we sanded the board, and then repainted it. The board turned out SOO much better then before. Not it still isn't perfect, but it is as close as it is going to get! We ended up putting it in the frame, and hanging it up on the wall tonight! It looks really good in my room, and I'm glad that we were able to figure it all out! :)
This is the process that the painting went through!
I love my new chalkboard! The pink though is much brighter!
xoxo,<3 Katelyn
