Narrative Essay That I Wrote For School

In this quarter of school, I had to write a narrative essay, and also a critical book review. My narrative essay had to be on something that left an impact on me, or an event that happened in my life, that has taught me something. Well I chose to write about my experience at camp, and what that week taught me. It taught me to not judge something, off of what I thought about it, but to go at something with an open mind. When I went to camp, I was determined that it wasn't going to be any fun, and I was going to be ready to go back home, fifteen minutes after getting there! Thankfully that was not the case, and I had a great time with friends and learning about God!

I hope you enjoy this paper! I am almost finished with writing papers from this year, so you guys are almost finished suffering through my writing!!

Last summer, our church group took a group of teens to a local Christian camp. I had heard of the camp, and had even visited the camp before, but had never stayed any amount of time there. I decided that I was going to go with our teens, to teen camp. I really didn't think I was going to enjoy camp. I had been to another Christian camp before, and that camp was like you were staying at a resort. This camp that I was going to was like an actually camp that you would think of. It was rugged and outdoorsy. The cabins were way back in the woods, and were nothing more than a very long room filled with one or two walls, and the rest of the space held bunks. They didn't even have bathrooms in the actually cabins. There were two very nice cabins though.

When we first arrived at camp, we had to check-in of course. After checking-in and receiving room assignments, and a counselor, we were allowed to go put our stuff in our cabin. Luckily we got to stay in one of two nice cabins that were fairly new to the camp. Those two nice cabins had their own bathrooms, and air conditioners. The cabins were divided into two areas that could hold six campers.  The cabin that we stayed in was Blue Ridge Back. There was another church group staying in the other side of the cabin. There were six girls that went with our church group so thankfully, we didn’t have any other people staying on our side of the cabin.

Our counselor didn't get there until the next day, so that is when we got to meet her. She was really nice, and I'm glad we got her as a counselor! We would do almost the same thing every day. We would eat, do devotions, play games, free time, pool time, services, and explore. Even though it was the same almost the same thing each day, it seemed to be different because it would always be a different game, or a different swim time. They would alternate girl swim time, and guy swim time. Whoever had swim time first, would have free time after swim time. It would also alternate on the different days. The games were fun too. We would play games during the day, and at night. The night games were fun because we would get to have glow sticks in order to see! That was a lot of fun!

The games were fun and everything else we did was fun, but my favorite part was the services. We had services two times a day, in the afternoon and the evening. We would have our personal devotions in the morning, and then come together with our counselor to talk about them. Our counselor would also bring a little devotion too. We would also learn verses for points. Back to the services, the youth pastor they had into preach and teach us was awesome!! He knew the right way to keep your attention. If somehow you managed to get lost in your own thoughts, he knew how to get your attention back very quick. He could tell if you were not paying attention. He would call out either your name, or what you had on, tell you to straighten up, and then go right back to preaching. The evening services were good, but my favorite was the afternoon services. You would be used to the evening services, because a lot of churches have evening services, but the afternoon services were just a refresher after doing fun stuff. You would get refreshed to go on with your afternoon, and whatever you were doing in the afternoon. In the back of your mind, you were always thinking about what he said, and what you had learned.

At the beginning of the week, I didn't think that I was going to enjoy it, but I did enjoy it! I was around my friends, new friends, and the Word of God. Nothing is better. This experience taught me, to not judge something by what I think it is going to be like, but just to go and do it. In the end, you like probably end up liking what you did!
